The full story: The Sartorialist’s Lunch for 25. Love the fantastic suits, hearing Italian conversations coming from the kitchen at an intimate Florentine trattoria.

Fantastic Italian Food at Twisp's Tappi
My visits to Eastern Washington are no longer complete without a stop for dinner at Tappi. Chef John Bonica soulfully prepares his delicious family recipes in a cozy outpost in downtown Twisp. From pizzas to lamb chops, Bonica cooks most of the simple country dishes in his wood-fire oven and sources many of his ingredients from nearby farms in the Methow and Okanogan Valleys.
I find myself...

Fresh Pasta Lunches at Il Corvo
Three visits in less than a week might mean I have a problem, but Il Corvo has easily become my new favorite lunch spot.
Tucked behind the stairs on the Pike Street Hillclimb, sharing a space with Procopio Gelato, Il Corvo serves up 3 hand-made pasta dishes daily. The rotating antipasti menu includes house-cured meats, marinated olives, and breads baked in a friend’s wood-fired oven....

"How Italian Food Conquered the World" by John F....
John F. Mariani’s fascinating review of the rise of Italian cuisine as both a competitor among the culinary elite and a crowd-pleasing standard has quickly become one of my favorite summer reads.
Mariani traces the development of Italian food outside of Italy from its beginnings in communities of mostly Southern Italian immigrants in New York and San Francisco, through the mid-century...

Da Vinci Da Spokane
On a recent trip to Spokane, my family and I visited the traveling Leonardo da Vinci exhibit at the Northwest Museum of Arts & Culture. Leonardo da Vinci: Man - Inventor - Genius features wooden models of da Vinci’s inventions, replicas of his paintings (including the Mona Lisa), and lots of fantastic interactive ways to learn about one of the original Renaissance men.
The panels...

Life After Florence
This week I wanted to share a beautiful article titled “Learning to Live With Arrivederci” by Susan Jacoby for The New York Times. Jacoby describes the longing for all aspects, both mundane and otherworldly, of her life in Florence upon returning home to New York. My sister sent me the link when she had just returned from a year abroad in Florence knowing that she and I now share a...

Jamie Magazine: The Italian Issue
Ah, the impulse magazine purchase in the grocery store check out aisle. Normally it’s of the celebrity gossip sort, filled with photos that make me feel guilty for having skipped my last 2 or 3 or 10 workouts. But this time, a cute pink font and a bowl of what looked like rigatoni all’amatriciana caught my eye. Jamie Oliver’s Jamie magazine devoted its entire March/April issue to Italian...

Pizza and the Godfather
My hubby and I were finally able to stop by the new Serious Pie on Westlake Avenue. South Lake Union is much more conveniently located (and easier to park in) than downtown so it was already a more relaxing experience by the time we walked in the front door. We’ve also pretty much given up on trying to ever get a seat at the downtown location. We followed the hostess in shock and awe...
