Pizza and the Godfather
My hubby and I were finally able to stop by the new Serious Pie on Westlake Avenue. South Lake Union is much more conveniently located (and easier to park in) than downtown so it was already a more relaxing experience by the time we walked in the front door. We’ve also pretty much given up on trying to ever get a seat at the downtown location. We followed the hostess in shock and awe as we were taken to a table almost immediately.

The mezzanine dining space is definitely cozy. Some very friendly folks seated next to us at our communal table offered us a taste of their grilled octopus and fava bean salad. It was so good we had to order it for ourselves. The octopus was perfectly charred, tossed with chickpeas and tomatoes cured in olive oil, and set on a puree of fava beans. It seemed like the perfect antipasto for a meal on the Sicilian coast.

We were seated close to the ovens so our pizza taunted us as it sizzled next to the applewood flames. We ordered the special pizza of the evening which was made with the oil-cured tomatoes, house-made pancetta, and dandelion greens. It was an excellent choice if I do say so myself.

With our bellies full and happy, we came home and decided the perfect way to end our Southern-Italy-inspired meal would be to cozy up and watch The Godfather. I like to think that Don Corleone himself would have been pretty pleased if he had been lucky enough to chow down with us…
